Short Biography:

  • Dr. Matthew Kohler has been a leader in the field of Interventional Pain Medicine in Manhattan since he began his post-doctoral training in 2015. He completed both his residency in Anesthesiology and fellowship in Pain Medicine at the prestigious Columbia University Medical Center, part of New York City’s #1 ranked New York-Presbyterian Hospital system. He is double-board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology. Following his training and prior to co-founding Ospina Medical, Dr. Kohler spent over three years honing his skills in one of Manhattan’s premier private practice medical groups as the Director of Venous Therapies, in addition to managing a wide variety of spine and joint conditions with traditional and progressive healing therapies.
  • Dr. Kohler has an undergraduate degree in Human Biological Anthropology from Emory University, which has provided him with a unique and comprehensive understanding of human form and function from an evolutionary and systems perspective. He then received his Medical Degree from the University of Virginia, one of the nation’s leaders in innovative and collaborative medical teaching and research. It is during his time at the University of Virginia that his core principals of engaging in the highest quality patient care, education, research, and service to the community were firmly instilled. As a result of his commitment to patient care and the community, Dr. Kohler is the Founder and President of the ChemoCare Foundation, an organization committed to supporting children undergoing cancer treatments.
  • Nationally, Dr. Kohler remains an active participant in medical societies such as the North American Neuromodulation Society and Interventional Orthopedics Foundation. Additionally, he has been hand-selected by Nevro (a neuromodulation device company) for an exclusive Early Practice Leaders program. This program is based on “a small, national group of early-practice physicians focused on interventional pain and neuromodulation. The purpose of this group is to further develop high potential leaders and increase the impact we can have on the field of pain medicine.” Dr. Kohler has also served as an expert medical witness in court, sought out by a large personal injury law firm in New York City to help defend their clients due to his expertise and standing within the medical community.
  • Dr. Kohler understands the need for a proven yet personalized treatment plan to alleviate his patients’ suffering. He offers a wide variety of treatment options, including interventional orthopedics, nerve blocks, and spine and joint injections. He generally encourages a holistic and conservative approach whenever possible to help improve his patients’ quality of life while minimizing risks. He has extensive research involvement and keeps current on the latest medical literature and advanced procedural techniques in order to optimize each patient’s functionality and comfort.
